Ironing out the issues and back into employment!

Friday, June 29, 2012What a great news story! After being unemployed for ten years Claire has found a new job! St Laurence Ironing Service based in Colac has employed her.

Colac Ironing Service provides a professional ironing and laundry service to the Colac region.  From a small basket of shirts up to large commercial quantities.

Claire stated that “I am looking forward to having more money to save up to do more things that I have been wanting to do for a long time.  I would like to attend the Tamworth Festival hopefully in 2013”.

“Being employed has given me the opportunity to make friends, gain new skills, increase self-confidence and a reason to get out of bed each morning!”.  Claire said.

St Laurence Community Services was able to provide Claire with supported employment which made her more comfortable to apply knowing that this support was in place.

Claire is very happy in her new role and is building on her customer service skills.

Social Inclusion - Inclusive growth what does it mean?When Kevin Rudd became Prime Minister he established the Social Inclusion Advisory Board in 2009. This was in line with European and British social policy thinking, which since the 1970s, have been using this terminology and putting it into practice. Social Inclusion in practice is often done through employment. For some obtaining employment is more difficult than for others. It is important in an inclusive community that everyone has the right to housing, food, a safe environment and employment opportunities. Further to this is the notion of inclusive growth.
