LBW Chartered Accountants embrace Corporate Social Responsibility

Friday, March 16, 2012On Wednesday 14th March, 2012 a group of fifty staff from LBW Chartered Accountants left their suits and calculators at the office, put on some casual attire and picked up some gardening tools to spend half a day at St Laurence Park in Lara to assist in giving the Park a ‘facelift’.

The team at LBW Chartered Accountants know the value of helping out a non-profit organisation and enjoyed the day out of the office.

It also gave them an opportunity to interact with the residents of St Laurence Park, one resident stating how much they enjoyed the team from LBW helping them out and that the day was fun.

The LBW team used the activity as a team building event and were provided with a task list and separated into three groups. The group undertook the following tasks:

  • Planted approximately 100 new plants for screening and to attract native wildlife
  • Removed the arbour and sleepers from the pedestrian walkway entrance to the Park creating a new garden bed and adding sleepers to define parking areas in the gravel car park.
  • Oiled the front post and rail fence.

Staff enjoyed the activity, with many commenting that it was nice to be given the opportunity to contribute in a physical way to improving the community.

St Laurence Park residents assisted on the day by cooking LBW staff a BBQ lunch.

Well done to the team at LBW for the example they have set by embracing Corporate Social Responsibility and producing a positive impact in the community.

Social Inclusion - Inclusive growth what does it mean?When Kevin Rudd became Prime Minister he established the Social Inclusion Advisory Board in 2009. This was in line with European and British social policy thinking, which since the 1970s, have been using this terminology and putting it into practice. Social Inclusion in practice is often done through employment. For some obtaining employment is more difficult than for others. It is important in an inclusive community that everyone has the right to housing, food, a safe environment and employment opportunities. Further to this is the notion of inclusive growth.
